Personal:

I love to run.  Most days, it is the difference between a good day and a great day.  And on those days that aren't so good, a nice long run helps me to relax and remember what is important to me.

I'm an attorney, but frankly, I don't like most lawyers.  I don't care about money or social status.  Fortunately, I found my dream job as a prosecutor. As such, I spend most of my time in court trying to achieve a resolution that will have the best impact on our community.

I've been married to my best friend, Jennifer, since 2003.  I like to think she has made a decent man out of the boy she married.  We have 3 amazing children.  They are the joy of my life.

I ran the Virginia Loop today. I took it relatively easy but I threw in several brief surges in the lower Avenues.  I think it is referred to as an alphabet run.  I ran at maximum effort for 1 block and then jogged for 1 block.  I did this for 10 blocks.  Those 5 surges felt amazing.  I haven't run that fast in a really long time.

Do you have any tips on how to approach the first 5 miles? I've run Emigration Canyon before but the start looks like a pretty severe downhill.

yes -- the first three miles are steep, steep downhill. it's impossible to run slowly there, but just do your best to keep it easy and relaxed and stay light on your feet. if you charge out of the gates and try to bank time, i guarantee you will lose minutes at the end of the race due to imploded quads. :)

Thanks for the advice. I will remember that on race day. Have a great weekend!
